An Oldman with His Cellphone...

I love photography for through the lens I get to enjoy nature and other objects much more closely. It a passion of mine since childhood. Come retirement I got all the time in the world to do serious photography. In doing photography one must be prepare for the unexpected, like the above image of a friend who came for tea at my house recently. I just did a random snap and did not expect much but it turn out to be a great image of an old man with his passion for the cellphone. We had sat at the Kopitiam table at the patio to chat over tea and enjoy some traditional fritter that my spouse had prepared. It is a tradition  in our culture that when folk come a visiting we would entertain them appropriate; most of the time with something to bite. In this case my spouse had prepared Cekodok to enjoy with the tea. We knew most of our friends preferred drink; in this case this relative of ours love tea without sugar. It was during a pause while chatting that I took some snap with my cell phone camera and the result surprised me indeed. I am now using a Nokia Lumia 525 and found the tiny camera of the cellphone is really good in capturing image a close range. It just a simple camera; focus and a touch on the screed would activate the camera. The image look great and I am sharing it here for all to see and enjoy. Folks who had seen this image that I had posted in Facebook ask why is that he is concentrating on his camera while having a chat with friends over tea. Well folk as it is he may be looking for some interesting image to show or looking at an SMS message. It does not matter to me.  It is a culture now for folks to look at their cellphone from time to time even while with friends and it has already become an accepted norm to the society since the introduction of the cellphone.  I like this image. To me it does tell an interesting story of folks in their golden years enjoying life as they so like.

Wandering Around...

April 15, 2014 was a beautiful day so I decided to go for a walk. Yes for a walk. During that week it always rain in the afternoon, a welcome rain indeed. So I decided to do the walk in the morning part of the day. Normally it would start raining just after four in the afternoon. I love walking and take the time while walking to enjoy the scenes around and do some photography. I drive the Honda to the KLCC car park and then start walking using the tunnel-walkway from the KLCC to the Bukit Bintang area. Carrying a haversack with my camera, my iPad and a bottle of drinking water I start walking slowly, snapping some image using my camera. I dangle the camera and walk slowly. The Tunnel-Walkway from KLCC to Bukit Bintang at the Pavilion is 1.3 kilometres long one way. I have Blog about the tunnel/walkway here. So it was just a nice walk in the cool comfort of the air-condition walkway. I just take it easy and wander along enjoying the walk with my mind running wild. There are many people walking both ways in this busy walkway. Folks would walk to and fro KLCC- Bukit Bintang- KLCC. It sort of a short cut from both areas of the city. Both sides of the tunnels were decorated with painting or advertisement turning the area into a colourful walkway. There is a small food court near the Aquaria and since it as yet a lunch time the place is not as crowded as it would. I just took a slow walk and move on toward the Convention Centre and then take the escalator and move forward toward the Pavilion. [ The image above is in the Pavilion]

At this part of the walkway one can see both sides of the Bukit Bintang road from the top with cars rushing on both sides; a busy road indeed. I continue my walk into the Pavilion Mall and then went to the food court below to have my lunch. I decided to just have a light lunch of Ipoh Chow Kwey Teow at the Little Ipoh stall there. I sat down at one of the table and enjoy my food. Soon the place became crowded with the lunchtime crowds. Then two young men join my table to enjoy their lunch. They are strangers who eventually became  my friends. I finished my lunch and continue to sit there and chat with the two. I soon found that both of them are working at the banks nearby. One grew up in the rural area of Kedah while one in Kelang.. Both of them are from the generation of my kids. It was really nice to talk to them. After having their lunch they left to get back to their office nearby. I continue to sit down and while my time on Facebook and enjoying the day. 

After a while I walk along the Bukit Bintang Street toward the Low Yat Plaza, my destination. The street was already crowded at that time with tourists and the local, perhaps going for lunch or shopping. I notice that everywhere there are detour path to allow folks to get from one point to the other since there are construction everywhere for the MRT. For a while folks had to bear the difficulties but when the MRT system is completed folks would be able to get to the other parts of the city much easier. I move on with the crowds and eventually got to the Low Yat Plaza. 

The Low Yat Plaza is the mecca of all things electronics. Everything electronics under the sun are sold there. Just before moving on I stop at the Starbucks along the corridor there and order coffee and then set at one of the table to enjoy the free Wifi. After a while I move on into the mall. It was already throng with folks looking for computers, electronic parts, cell phone and others electronics gadgets. I browse around and found a shop where I enquire about the applications for TV reception. Got a friendly salesman to explain of how some gadget works. He knows his stuff well indeed and since the items that I wanted to purchase is a bit expensive I was happy to have been provided with extra information on that. I thanks him and would most probable go back to buy it. 

I decided to leave the Low Yat Plaza and walk back toward the Pavilion. I thought that its best I get to the Pavilion before it start to rain. As usual the street is still throng with tourists walking on both directions. I stop and took some picture of the buildings alongside the road as well the construction sites where there are crane and workman doing their work on the MRT project. 

After a while I reach the Pavilion and got inside. After browsing along I decided to get to the food court again and this time I ordered a Teh Tarek and some Curry Puff. I sat at the table at the food court and enjoy my snack. After a while I start walking back to the KLCC via the Tunnel and Walkway. With that it ends my adventure of the day.

Just Rambling...

It has been an eventful months; first the news of the plane missing. Well it happened and I did not want to get deeply involved with it. Then the starting of water rationing where we get water supply only every two days. I have written about this and happy that the authority are doing their best to get the water supply going on as usual when the water at the reservoir is back to normal. It has start raining since the last one week and it is cool here in Ampang Jaya this morning. With the daily rain I do hope we would get our regular water supply and life would be much easier. Then I got new that a Blogger friend of mine who blog here had just passed away. Read this write-up about the late Bernard Khoo in the Blog Shanghai Fish. It is sad indeed but then that is the way it is with every living species on this planet. When the time comes we go, just like when we first arrived on the beautiful planet call earth. The say when we arrived we cry and that when we go others cry; how true! He was sort of a fighter for democracy and justice using the social media Blog as his mean. Well folks life is like that and his fight would surely be taken over by the young. There would be no end in the fight for equality among man for that is the nature of our world. Well folks that is life and living.

On the left is an image at the Serambi [patio] near my little garden; it the colour, the aroma and the little items of art that does enlighten our lives. So let move on and enjoy life.

My little abode...

When I first bought my house in Ampang Jaya it was all brick and mortar. I did not like it so over times I tried to change it to a more wooden house. It was not easy and with the budget I got over times I did it and now it no longer look like the original house that I bought in the early seventies. I turn my concrete house into sort of a wooden house and create a small garden in front and at the backyard. There is a huge bush of all kind of greens in front where the gate is. So my whole house is like a little garden and it does kept the house cool. I no longer slept in an air-conditioned room to keep me been dehydrated and thus healthy. We all must give due respect to the greens for without the green the whole living species on this planet would perish. Why you may ask. The answer is that as we all know pretty well that all living species need energy to live and that energy comes from the Sun. It is the Plants that convert that Sun's energy into foods that we could consume to get that energy from the Sun. So folks just a gently reminder; plant greens around your house or anywhere and give due respect to it for without it we all would be banished from this planet.

Of Parenting...

I was at the Cash Converter shop at Ampang Point. This shop buy used good and resell it. It a place where one could convert those house-whole items that they no longer need and turn it into ready cash. The shop then sell these goods to those who want second-hand good to use. It sort of a win win situation for folks. From time to time I would visit this shop. Not that I really would buy things but I love to browse along and look at all that are for sale. On one fine day on impulse I bought a bicycle. As I was going out of the shop with the bicycle a young woman talk to me and said that she too was looking for a bicycle for her kid. And say that had I not bought it she would most likely would.  Soon we got into talking into subjects that just pop up from our minds. I eventually found that she is a working mother with one of her kids in a boarding school. Since I never subscribed to the idea of a boarding school for kids at any early age I told her that it was not wise from my point of view to put kids in a boarding school at too early an age. In this case most boarding school in this country takes in kids at an early age of twelve years old. She said her kid is thirteen and that mean it already in the second year. To me kids should goes to school from their loving home where they get to learn the valuable norms and value of life at home which is almost impossible to learn in boarding school. Living in a hostel is not the same like living in a home. Kids should not be raise in a hostel’s environment but in a home full of love where the parents and kids bonding would remain strong. I told her I did not put any of my kids in boarding school. They all went to schools from home. They all turn out well; in fact beyond my expectation. I at time wonder why especially the middle class Malay still want to send their kids to boarding school when all our non-boarding school are as good. I found that so. I believe parenting would never be the same when the kids are not living in their own home. The parents and kids bonding would never be the same again.  It is different if the kids come from the urban or rural poor where living condition in their home are not as good. But for the middle class parents I believe it is not wise to put their kids in a boarding school at such an early age. Once the kids go to a boarding school at 12 years old he or she would only be back to the home after they had completed their college education. And at that time they would normally be around 24 years old. So to me parents who send their kids to boarding school at 12 years of age would soon lost 12 years of parenting. By the time they end their college education they would be adult already and no longer kids. I believe some folks do not want to hear this. But then it is their choice and not mine. I am sharing these thoughts so that parents may give some thought on what I had said.  Remember you the parents lost 12 years of good parenting time during the prime period of the kid’s life. And that the parenting aspect is lost for that period of time. I believe the kids too miss those wonderful years of been close with their parent where they could learn the norms and value of good living culture. They may get excellent academic result living in a boarding school though but academic result alone does not really help in the development of those young kids into a matured human being. Well that is my 2 cents.
