52 Merdeka Day...

Folks, today Malaysia celebrate it 52th years of Independence. It was on August 31, 1957 that Malaya [now Malaysia] gained its independence for Britain after been colonized for some 500 years. Starting from the Portuguese in 1511, then Dutch, the Portuguese again, then the British until the Second World War when the country was occupied by the Japanese. After the Japanese surrendered in 1945 it was ruled for 14 days by the Communists before the British came back and continue to rule [Malaya] Malaysia until August 31, 1957. Merdeka! Have a nice day.

Pak Idrus, it is nice to see senior Malaysians blogging. You were a young man when Malaysia achieved independence and you have served in the govt. I too was in the civil service. Drop me a comment on my blog where I have written about my hopes for our country.

KL girl now in Ipoh, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of this posting.

Yes I was just eighteen years old when we got our independence. More detail in your blog's comment. I did not want to write much in this year Merdeka Celebration since to me it has lost its meaning. We need to regain our independence from those politician who think they own this country. Anyway I am happy that change is on the way. It is not going to be easy as we have seen since the tsunami of March 2008. But it would happen and the rakyaat shall prevail.

Have a nice day and take care.

Puan Isah, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of this posting.

I was then eighteen years old and saw the lowering of the Union Jack and the raising up of the Federation of Malaya flag at the Kuantan Town Padang on the morning of August 31, 1957. It was indeed a great moment in my life and I could still remember vividly that great day in our history.

Have a nice day and take care.

~Covert_Operations'78, Ee Lynn thanks for the visit and the Merdeka greeting. Yes we do have a great country and it is just 52 years old. Our founding father create a Secular Democracy and we must see to it that it remain so forever.

Like everything else in our world things changes, so for democracy to works well we have to adept to changes. It has began with the March 8, 2008 election and I believe that more changes are to come as we move forward. It is not going to be easy but we like all Goodman would eventually succeed. To me we could only succeed if we continue to practice true Democracy and leave religion to the individual.

You generation are going to be part of that change and I believe with wisdom we all would get there in good time.

Have a nice day and take care.

I have this unhappy feeling that
52nd merdeka found the country rather gloomy. I really hope that Malaysia will continue to prosper and its people, live together harmoniously. Many recent events in our country unfortunately seem to show that there's tension everywhere, and at times involving different racial groups. How sad! But, may be we should not be too pessimistic, right? Salam.

Temuk, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of this posting.

You are not alone with that feeling. I think the celebration has became a show without soul. The authority was not thinking of the people but instead of what they think the rakyaat need. What the rakyaat need is what is reflected in the March 8,2008 election result and that is change for the better like accountability and transparency in the disbursement of public fund [wang rakyat]. Instead the BN government does not seem to get the mesagage and still think the old way, thus the disappointment of the rakyaat. The recent event are not from the majority of the rakyaat but from those who lost and refused to accept defeat. In a democracy wining and losing is part of the system and political party especially the BN must accept the fact and move forward.

As far as I am concern there are no
racial problem in the country. It is the race based political part that choose to portray the it exist. For 51 years we have learn to live with each other in peace and harmony and I believe with the wisdom of all Malaysian we would continue to do so. We all want change for the better and we could only do that through the ballot box and that would happen as we move forward.

I am an optimist by nature and know that the generation of my children and grand children love this country more then they love any political party. And they would surely see to it that the country would continue to be peaceful and with that be able to share the prosperity as well. We are a young country, just 51 years old and in history 51 years is a shorty period indeed.

The nationalist of the older group would be gone soon and be replaced with a new Malaysian who I believe would provide better leadership to the country as we move on. That would surely be good for our beloved country Malaysia.

Have a nice day and take care.
