Of Tea and Scone, Seattle and Kuala Lumpur...

Yes folk yesterday on a beautiful Sunday afternoon three of us golden age blogger met at my home in Ampang Jaya for tea. I had organized a tea to meet a fellow blogger from the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia who is in town for a visit. I had only known Zaharan in cybersphere and is still a stranger in real life. So today's meet is to get to know him in the real world. When I contact him he suggested that I invite a few other blogger that he had only known in cybersphere and has yet to meet in the real world. So for that I invited a few which include Pokku. When we met just after four on that lovely Sunday afternoon only Zaharan and Pokku arrived for that tea. So as usual with blogger three of us do made a crowd indeed and soon the chat start to generate energy that only blogger like us could.

Over scone and tea we sat to chat like old friends. And then I decide to get my friend Louis from Seattle to join in the tea through a virtual visit. Using Skype we got hooked on a live chat. His presence on the laptop was so real for I had already met Louis in real person when I visited him in July last year in Seattle. So there he is on my laptop live from Seattle at 1.30AM, the beginning of his day in the early hours of February 8, 2008 while we in Kuala lumpur was at past 5.30PM. It was good of him to wait so late after midnight for our meet in the virtual world. While we were enjoying our tea with the goodies that my spouse had prepared, we could only talk with Louis and see him in action in his Seattle home at the wee hour of the night but could not offer him those goodies that we was enjoying in my home in Ampang Jaya. Maybe in the future when we could transmit atom like we do with bits now, perhaps he too could enjoy that scone and the other goodies as well. For now it has to be just a chat and seeing him in virtual reality and us here enjoying those delicious goodies on the table.

Each of us took turn to talk with Louis and it was really nice to be able to talk so cordial on various subjects that come to our minds. At that moment in time we cross the time and space barriers to just chat over tea in Kuala Lumpur. Seattle and Kuala Lumpur soon converged into one time zone of the Internet time. At that moment in time distance ceased to exist. Folks it was the wonder of the Internet and Blogging that made it possible to realized that meeting in cyberspace. Indeed it was the technology that made our day.

Have a nice day.

Wow! It's amazing to see Louis on a screen 8000 miles away when he is just around the corner from me. That was a brilliant idea, Pak Idrus! Gone are the days when video conferencing is limited to official businesses. :)

Delish spread by Kak Asmah. I like her neat and classy table-setting.

Have a great week, Pak Idrus!

If only you knew how I wanted to reach out and get that scone that you offered me on camera, Idrus! If only I had known that the laptop was right there on the table close to the goodies, I would have grabbed one :)

Yes, Rita...seems like it's been harder to cover that relatively short distance between our homes..and that unexpected snow last night might portend more delays...but we'll yet get together!

Salam Pak Idrus and Kak Asmah,

So sorry I could not make it, as I had responsibilities to carry out. Your house is lovely and I am glad everyone had a good time. Poor Louis missed the yummy spread! Too bad food can't be transmitted via the Net.

Take care and see you around soon,
CO78

Rita, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of this posting.

Well the linkup was a success so we actually have him in virtual reality at the table. The next time we would have you and David. It was fun and I believe it would continue to be fun to have one or two virtual reality guests.

Thanks for the compliment on Asmah work of art and the goodies. She love to do that and enjoy partying.

When you are back we shall arrange a get together with other blogger. It would surely be fun.

Have a nice day.

Salam Pak Idrus,
You offered Louis scones on the screen, i see? Man, you were torturing him, you know? ;)
It is indeed great and exciting to see technology, day by day, setting new benchmark of what is the meaning of instant communication. A click away, that is :)

Louis, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on that wonderful tea at my home in Ampang Jaya.

Your presence was really wonderful. It was made possible, thanks to technology. Well, who knows the time would come when you could be present as a hologram and be there in person. As for the Scone come over and we shall bake more for Elena and you.

As for you and Rita it is alway like that when you are nearby. Well hope that you all could gang up and have me as the virtual reality guest. It would surely be fun.

Have a nice day.

Akmal, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on this event with Louis of Seattle. Well some fun it is OK with folks in their golden age.

Indeed the technology gave us that opportunity to communicate in virtual reality. By the time you reached my age, we could sent atom like we do with bits now. And your generation could travel the world at the click of a button!!.

Have a nice day.

Salam Pak Idrus,

I couldnt take Zaharan, an old MCKK classmate whom I havent met for some years, to Tok Mommy's MRT today to meet other bloggers as it had been called off and he had to go somewhere else. But good to know that you all had a nice evening.

Patricia, thanks for the visit and the compliments.

Well, once a while we just enjoy a colorful tea with stranger/friends and it had been a beautiful day.

Louis is a golden age friend/blogger from Seattle. I thought that it would be wonderful to have him as guest as well albeit only a virtual one. Except for not been there in person we all did communicate very well indeed with him.

Have a nice day.

Pak Idrus,
Thanks for the invite but it was so unfortunate that my time in KL was so tight as I had to visit my sister in Gombak and nephew in Setia Alam and son in Shah Alam. Just can't slot in another visit to Ampang. Would definitely love to meet up with Pokku, the other fellow elderly that I havent met.
As to Louis, I have often chatted with him on skype using the video conference.
Will visit you when I have a longer stay around KL. I will be in KL again mid Marchfor the MATTA fair. How about going to the fair together? Perhaps we could holiday abroad together in June. Sherry and Nazmi from Kuantan has agreed to join me at the MATTA fair. Maybe we could even rope in Dato' Sak.

Zawi, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of this posting.

Indeed it would be great if you could have spared some time to be with us that day. Anyhow I understand that you were so busy with your program while in KL. It is always like that when you are on such a short visit. Any way I hope you could make it the next time you are in KL.

As for MATTA I have to think about it since I do not want to do any booking that I have to wait for the journey. Normally I would just book a ticket and go the next week.

Have a nice day.
