The Dragonfly and the Ants...

While walking at the small garden in front of my patio I spotted this fallen Dragonfly without the tail. It must have fallen down and die on the floor, where I could see ants crawling all over it and slowly carrying it away.

It was really great to get to see nature in action, part of the Eco system of nature. The dead Dragonfly soon became food for the ants. Perhaps the ants would be enjoying a feast after this.

I fixed the Macro Lens to my camera and took a numbers of snaps as the ants slowly move the giant Dragonfly away from my sight; a fascinating sight in the micro world of the insects. It is the little happenings like this that made our world so colorful. The interaction among the species, be it the plants, the animals and insects and us the Homo sapiens. Such a wonderland if only we care to look and appreciate.

Have a nice day. [Click to enlarge image]

Salam Pak Idrus
Haven't visited your blog for quite a while. Great pics! What has happened to the dragonfly is a good lesson to us too: one may be a 'dragon' & 'fly'ing high, but when he dies, he becomes a nobody. Mujurlah ada agama yg mempastikan kita yg meninggal dunia diurus dgn mulia. You know, I haven't been to the KL Tower too. Biar lewat asal melawat, kan? Insya Allah nanti.

Temuk, thanks for the visit and the good words on my kind of photography that is part of this posting.

Well it is only through photography that we get to watch the scene at our leisure and enjoy that frozen moment in time. We have such a wonderful world out there and the Macro Lens take us into a new dimension that we normally did not get to see with our naked eyes or the ordinary lens of the camera.

I am indeed glad that you enjoy the image and help to spread the hidden message that one see. I once read a book about death and found that all species have a way of taking care of the dead. Millions of animals and insects die every minutes and yet we hardly notice it. This is because there is a mechanism out there that quickly disposed of the dead without the fanfare. For our species like you rightly pointed out, the religion of man took care of it.

Sir as for the KL Tower, it is always like that, the tourist get to see it first then the local. Surely you would get there one of these day.

Have a nice day and take care.

Salam, Pak Idrus! Everything has a use in Nature. Nature doesn't waste anything. The dragonfly will provide a lot of sustenance for thousands of ants. I like to look at the dragonfly's compound eyes. They seem to reflect hundreds of images back at me.

Hello there Pak Idrus,

Dragonfly is my favorite. I prefer dragonflies than butterflies. They are truly beautiful. I've spotted red, green and yellow dragonflies in Malaysia. When I was younger (I'm still young..hehe), I saw my neighbors' kids tied a string on the tail and flew them like flying kites.Thinking about it now, makes me think of cruelty. Nevertheless, it's a childhood memories.

Take care,
Yvonne

~Covert_Operations'78~, Ee Lynn thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the wonder of the Animal/inset worlds.

Yes the Dragonfly is indeed a unique flying insect. It is the Dragonfly that lead scientist to invent the Helicopter.

Have a nice day.

Anonymous, Yvonne thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of the posting.

Yes the Dragonfly comes in all color of the rainbow and it is really nice to get to catch it. Like you said kids would tie the insect with a string and see it fly. Well kids are kids. It is only when we grow older that we began to understand that such doing are rather cruel. But at that time it was just fun.

Have a nice day young lady and take care.
