For the love of cycling...

It was a great morning, the weather is a bit cools and I was somewhat in the state of day dreaming. Suddenly the gate bell chimes. Who was it I wonder? At this hour of the morning I am not expecting any visitor that I know of. Maybe it was some friend just dropping by at these early hours of the morning. Well I rush to the front door and saw what look like a boy in an orange cycling gear and stopping by. At first I just could not recognize who he was but then I realized he must be that friend of mine who is now sort of addicted to cycling. I open the gate's door and he came in with a package of tea. I invite him up but he decline but instead hand the package of tea which he says came from a friend in the UK. Smiling he says that he would come later after going on with cycling around the neighborhood. I thank him and continue with my morning ritual.

An hour later he came back smiling in the cycling gear likes a young boy excited with his new found toy. Folks, he is no boy but the blogger whom I address as Pak Adib. An engineer by profession and of retiring age but still in business his own way. I went down to greet him and took some images of that exciting moment; for not always I get to snap picture of blogger with a bicycle. Above are some images of Pak Adib with his mountain bike. Look how young and handsome he is in that gear, so energetic. Folks that bike do energize this friend of mine; it is now an extension of himself. With that bicycle of his and the cycling gear that he wore, it does made him younger then his age. As for his mountain bike it came with other gizmo that would surely made cycling more colorful. Likes the Bluetooth devise that he showed me, to activate wireless his speedometer and the other gadgets. He says with another gadget when is fixed to his body it could also take his heart beat as well. What a way to go with such technology at our disposal. Taking bicycling to another level.

Pak Adib says that his gang of cycling enthusiast would put the bike onto their cars and then meet at a park in Putra Jaya or some other places and then from there would cycle around in the vicinity and enjoying the ride. It is safer to cycle around in such places rather then cycling along the public roads. They would meet from time to time or at least once a week. It is sort of like a club meet of like minded folks. In this case they all have one thing in common in that they all love cycling and outdoor adventure. It looks interesting and challenging and who knows I might take to it and join his cycling group in this adventure of another kind. Anything could happen in the golden age.

Folks it is alright to be addicted to cycling. In fact it should be encouraged. It not only save our energy resources but it is good for our health as well. Indeed it is a good hobby. Have a nice day.

Hello Idrus,

My son, an avid cyclist, has been trying very hard to get me to take up cycling. Even took me to a bicycle shop to get me to admire all those new bikes.

I was amazed at all the new technology used in the latest models, even automatic gear shifting. But none of them had a motor, which was my minimum requirement. I take that back: one did have an electric motor which kicked in when the going got tough, but at a price to rival a small car, I had to pass it up.

Remember the little bells and dynamos that generated electricity for the headlamps in those early Raleigh bikes?

salam pak idrus,

Cycling fever can be seen almost everywhere at the moment. Even here in Meru, I noticed few social cycling groups has been formed and they're active.

Pak Idrus,
Pak Adib has taken biking seriously while I have given up biking for good. The earlier enthusiasm of biking has died off among our people in Pasir Mas.
@ Louis,
There were many second hand power assisted bikes from Japan being imported to Malaysia and they are being sold for around USD200 here.
Pak Idrus, you yourself are in great shape so you don't have to go biking to remain healthy.

Pak Zawi,
I am sad to hear that you and the people of Pasir Mas had given uo cycling for good.May I know why?

One of the reasons I cycle 3 times a week is to have regular cardio-vascular exercises for my heart.

Louis, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of this posting.

Well the kids always want to coach us to join them but then at this age and with whatever wisdom we had accumulated over time, we often take more time to make any decision, thus the excuses we give in taking up another hobby like bicycling. Well like you I had my day of cycling during my youth when I could still not afford a motorized vehicle, bicycle was my first mode of moving around other then walking.

Yes I do remember the dynamos and the headlight as describe by you. We do live and enjoy that technology of our time.

It would be hell of a place to start cycling in Seattle, what with all those hills. Anyway do have a nice time and take care.

Yes it look like there is some sort of a craze of cycling in the country. It is a good happening and for those who need that extra excise and enjoyment why not. Other then cycling for excise the meeting of like minded folks could be a great mean to an end.. Enjoying living.

Have a nice day.

Zawi, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of cycling.

Well different folks have different preference in deciding the kind of hobby. Some folks would enjoy a hobby for a long time and some would last only for awhile. I am the kind that like varieties, so I normally use such hobby as a mean to makes friends rather for the excises. Like my classic Volvo it is a mean to meet like minded folks and it does give me and my spouse enjoyment which we would otherwise could not get.

Thanks for the good words on my health and reminding me about it, well I kept healthy by heaving a peaceful mind and bloggging is one was of doing just that.

Have a nice day.

Wow, you are right, Pak Idrus! Pak Adib does look like a young boy in his cycling gear! Now he has inspired all of us to drag our old mountain beasts out of the storeroom, inflate the tyres, grease the chain and get going!

Regards,
CO78

Re Louis' comment: Yes I remember those Raleigh bikes! I had one, a smaller one for girls, with a bell, basket and dynamo 'headlights'! I rode it to school every day! And my housemate Jake remembers having a Raleigh Chopper with the high-backed seat and the gear in the middlebar! What a funny-looking bike it would seem today!
