Of the Ants and Orchids...

I took this image in the morning at our small garden. This orchid has just bloom and it sure add color to our little garden, my spouse favourite place in the morning. In the early morning the sun shone here first and by afternoon this place would be shaded from the afternoon sun. Orchids grows well with the just the right duration of direct sunlight, too much of sunlight would destroy the leaves and it would not be healthy for the whole plants. Beside sunlight and water, orchids need insects especially the ants to pollinate the flowers, as well as to keep other insects and parasites from the flowers. Actually without ants orchids would not grow well.

I was lucky this morning and managed to get the snap above, with the ants doing its duty nurturing the orchid. It is not that easy to get such an image. A rare moment in time indeed. After waiting patiently for this moment, I got my camera and Voila!!! took that wonderful image above and am sharing it with all to enjoy.

With the digital camera photography became so much easier. I could not have taken the above image in that moment in time, when the ants were there, with that clarity with an ordinary camera. That's the advantage of the digital camera in photography. Enjoy and Have a nice day..

  1. dear pak idrus,

at least, i have learn something. no wonder an orchid in our garden does not bloom over years after having it, of not having enough and balanced amount of water, ants and sun. (finally after a year, we've got one flower on our orchid).

and if you use a digital single lens reflex camera (DSLR), the picture would surely be better.

i enjoy photography too.. but have yet to own my own DSLR, and trying to get it.

Maybe you should have it, Pak Idrus! At least one will do, as it is long-lasting, and the pictures are superb too.

    take care.

  3. mutalib, thanks for the visit and those thoughtful comments. Well we always learn and pick up this and that along the ways. That's the reason I advice people to read. We need knowledge to understand the meaning of life and enjoy living.

As for photography I start to do it serious after I retired and still learning to get a perfect shot. But what is a perfect shot.. Well we all can debate on this until the cows comes home. Thanks for the tips.

Great to know that you love photography as well, it must be in our genes.

Have a nice day. take care

Hello Pak Idris, i am visiting your blog for the first time. I am very impressed with your grasp of the english language. It's a pity the present generation have lost the ability to write proper english. Three to four generations have lost out because of politics, nationalism and jingoism. Thanks for the music.

  6. nstman, thanks for the visit and those kind words. Well those politician act without wisdom and now the race suffered. It is still not too late though, if the authority do not want to bring the English language back, parents could and could help the next generation of Malaysian especially the Malay to progress, especially so in the globalized world. There are no other ways. It is the only way. The BM is still in its infancy and still just a language of communication and yet to be the language of knowledge. We could only progress by making English or Mandarin as the tool in acquiring knowledge. For it is knowledge that would decide the destiny of a nation and for that mater the Malay race. Have a nice day and take care.
