One of the greatest invention that gave perpetuity is the camera. In the past one had to draw or paint if one wants to keep an image. Today with the sophistication of the camera especially digital camera we could easily take a picture of an image and keep it forever. In the convenient of our home we could continue to enjoy the scene although the scene is no longer there.
In a changing world, the landscape changes all the time and because our lifespan is so short that we would not be able to notice the micro meters of changes that happened in front of our eyes all the times. Only if we care to photograph the scene over times that we would notice the changes.
The landscape of our horizon changes too but because it takes years before it is noticeable, we actually did not see the changes. To me the only way for us to see those changes is to photograph it over times and keep it for the next two or three generation to watch it. I believe they would notice the changes of the scene if they compare with the same scene in the photograph in say a hundred years from now.
The above image is a simple scene and I am posting it here for all to enjoy. Even in this photograph, as we move things around it would not remains the same as it was when this image was taken.

ReplyDeleteVery true, especially with the advent of the digital form of camera. I would love to compare the changes over the years if one could take it from the exact same spot at the same angle which is doable with the availability of GPS.
Or it wouldn't it be great if we were to record changes in ourselves over a span of time. I think a couple of blokes had done that already in Youtube.
I wish I can sit in your class and listen to your lecture on photography!
ReplyDeleteTake good care.
Rahman Hariri, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of this posting.
ReplyDeleteI would think that all local council in the country must have a unit to keep record like documents and photograph of the development of the county. As it is now only the National Archive kept such records and I do not believe they keep all the records especially photo of all the places in the country.
It is time that this aspect of our history especially the images be kept perpetually not only for the next generation to see but most important of all is to keep a reliable historical record of our history. For a start the local museum authority should start doing something about this very important aspect of our country.
As for the changing landscape it is a scientific fact that our horizons are changing everyday and has anything been done by the authority to photograph these changes, I wonder!
Have a nice day.
Zaharan Razak, thanks for the good words and I am too glad to have you in my class. We do need articulate and intelligent folks in classes to generate and provoke our thoughts for the mutual development, unlike classes that are full of the silence or the dump and or the Yes and No type, that are useless to our mental development.
ReplyDeleteSir Photography is actually new to me and I am learning it all the means of getting a good image as I go along. At this age I just learn and enjoy all those adventure in the wonderland of nature. Appreciate you thoughts on this. Take care.
