My Sunday Brunch...

It is a beautify Sunday, a lazy Sunday. As usual our kitchen is closed on Sunday, no cooking today but then we decided not to go out for lunch. I sat down in front of the TV watching the programs as it goes, switching channels and at time just day dreams into another world and jolted back with the loud sound of music on the TV. In the real world again and I felt hungry. Well I am too lazy to go out so I went to the kitchen and look what do I have in the fridge and the freezer. I got it! I told myself and start working for my lunch or rather brunch. It turns out great folks and the image above. Great eh!, The smell of those burning hot dog, fried eggs and the Hash-browns sizzling in the butter on the hot pan wet my appetite. The smell alone is heaven. I got it done and it looks great too. I sat down and enjoy my creation. Folks, it does taste real good. Well that was a great brunch on a beautiful lazy Sunday in November. Have a nice day.

  1. Pak Idrus, thanks for dropping by recently. I like your concept of closing the kitchen on a Sunday. I am sure the missus would like that, but then again, Sunday is the only day (other than Saturday of course) I would be able to enjoy home cook food for lunch.

Yeah once in a while the meal you just cooked sure beat the typical nasik lemak and roti canai!

  2. Rahman Hariri, Thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of this posting.

We have retired, so there are only two of us at home all the time. The kids are on their own. My spouse love to cook and everyday without failed she would cook. And if the grand kids call to cook whatever she would cook it too. It is her passion. So we that our kids and grand kids told grandma not to cook on Sunday and hence the kitchen is closed on Sunday. We would just go out for lunch or dinner or eat whatever there is at home or like today I just did a quick lunch and enjoy it.

Life in the golden age is different for everyday is a holiday, Sunday is sort of a free day for all.

Have a nice day and take care.

  3. Pak Idrus,
Delicious brunch, beat eating at Rajoo (Section 5,PJ) or La Bodega, Bangsar. We are retired too but unlike you we have our children and our cucu living with us. At times, I go awol from the kitchen (not that I cook all the time, since I am semi-retired but busier than when I was working).Wish my other half can cook like you, care to give him lessons starting with the brunch?
    Salam.

  4. NanaDJ, thanks for the visit and the good words on my brunch.

Well I love to cook but most of the time lazy. But from time to time I did what I did this Sunday. It sort of a lazy Sunday thing. Leaving the Nenek to enjoy her TV on her own.

Our kids and grand kids are not living with us. From the beginning we decided that the married kids should be on their own and we would only help in an emergency. It is time they run their own show. It is good for them as well as us and the grand kids. Folks in their golden age should not be burden with taking care of the grand kids. They live nearby and come on and off or when they are going overseas or seminar we would help like grandma would go and stay at their house. It is better this way than letting them live with us. Of course at the beginning of their marriage they did stayed with us and move out when they got their first kids. Actually it is more harmonious this way. Well, that is what we thought best for all.

    Have a nice day.

  5. What! You didn't cook your eggs in the microwave this time, Idrus?

Your idea of adult children moving out to run their own show, and grandparents just pinch-hitting in emergencies and special occasions is right on! Indeed "best for all" as you said.

  6. Salam Pak Idrus. I fully agree with you & Louis. I've retired for 5 yrs. My first son has 4 boys. My 2nd son has a girl, & a boy is on the way. My 3rd, a girl, has no kids yet. All of them are on their own. Can't imagine if all are under my roof (though there are rooms available for them!). But my wife & I enjoy very much their presence during weekends.

  7. louis, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of grand-parenting. As for the Microwave oven, I have tried boiling, steaming and poaching egg but as yet to succeed in frying egg in it. Anyway we have managed to fry vegetable successful. Vege does taste better when done in the Microwave oven. Anyway it is sure cannot replace frying when you get to smell the aroma as you cook. The Microwave is still one of the best appliance to have at home. It does made thing easier.

As for grand-parenting; you and I know that those kids must be give a change to be in charge of their family. With that they would learn of how high is the sky and how deep is the ocean. Parenting is a specialized job and they must do it one their own. If not they would loose the fun of enjoying parenting.

I strongly would advice children not to burden their mom and dad with the raising of their kids. It is a tough job and they should do it, like what we did to them. It is time for the grands to enjoy themselves.

    Have a nice day.

  8. Temuk, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on grand parenting.

It look like we all agree that the parenting of kids should be left to their parents only and not to be burden to the grand parent who are mostly old like Louis, You and Me. We would surely give a helping hand from time to time like I have said but the sole responsibility should be with them. It is their children and they should be responsible for their up bringing.

Recently a grandma relate to my Mrs that she was left to take care of 7 grand kids in her home. She cried when telling my Mrs of her ordeal. How can children did that to their parent I just could not understand knowing that the grandparent are old and just do not have the energy to take care of kids like they did when they are young. I was outraged when hearing that. Well I hope those who want to be parent should also understand the responsibility that come with it. Well, that is the real world.

    Have a nice day.

  9. "Old"???

Who, Idrus? Me? You? Temuk? "Seniors", yes, "Golden years", definitely, but "old," "ancient","elderly", "museum quality"? No way, lah.

  10. louis, Sorry about that, Great! that look like you are as active and observant as ever. That too shows that you are in the best of health.

I know you are not old and it is real great to know that. But not young anymore but a Senior.

Have a nice day and enjoy your Golden age. So how is Winter...

  11. Among the Malays in Malaysia, the term 'orang tua' is usually used to refer to old people. The other term used is warga emas (golden citizens). The term 'orang tua-tua' is used to mean the 'seniors'. Orang tua-tua (normally old!), is always associated with positive traits such as great wisdom & more experience in life. As such younger people should always be respectful of 'orang tua-tua' and look for them for advice. Remember, sometimes we may find an 'orang tua' who is not qualified to be called 'orang tua-tua'! Am I right, Pak Idrus? Salam.

  12. Salam, Pak Idrus! Wow, you're really good at preparing your own food! You are so independent! If my Dad were to find himself in the same situation, he would probably go out for thosai or pizza!

Beautiful lazy Sunday, indeed! I was in your area on Sunday, helping out at the SPCA as usual, and training some teenagers to provide care for animals.

  13. Temuk, thanks for the return visit and sharing your thoughts on the nomenclature and the philosophy of language. Yes, language is cultural, thus its uses and meaning could differ when use by different culture as society progress. The root words might start the same but as society progresses on its own path the uses and meaning of the same word[s] changes.

I am glad that you took the trouble to explain the word Tua [Old] and I hope our friend Louis would find it interesting in that in the Malay culture Orang tua tua is often referred to as folks of wisdom. Agreed that not all orang tua are orang tua tua.

I believe it is only at this age of tua that we are able to discuss and understand the philosophy of language. I do not believe that we would have done that in our younger days except maybe those folks who dealt in the teaching of language.

Thanks again. The beauty of Blogging is that your explanation would surely be useful when others Google for the meaning of Orang Tua and Orang Tua Tua.

    Have a nice day.

  14. ~Covert_Operations'78~, Ee Lynn thanks for the visit and the good words on me. Well I love to cook but am just lazy since most of the time Makcik would do it and I would enjoy the eating.

Both Makcik and I love to dine out and we would go out to some fine dine place and enjoy the meals. At the same time would bring back ideas that could be useful when we are onto another advanture into cooking.

Well it was a beautful Sunday and we often take it easy on such a day.

    Have a nice day.
