Folks March 8, 2008 is one year ago. It is a milestone in our history in that we Malaysian made history by voting in numbers thus changed the political scenario of our country. To me indeed it is a good change and good for our young democracy. I for one did not expect to see these changes during my life time but for the wisdom of Malaysian especially those of the generation of my children I got to see that change. Thanks Malaysian for that.
It is my hopes that these change in the political scenario would be the beginning of more changes to our lives as we move forward. It is not going to be easy but with experiences and wisdom we would be a better country from now onward. It is democracy at work and the change is part of the democratic process; the best political system that we got and we should nurtured it for the benefit of all the citizens of our beautiful country, Malaysia. Have a nice day.

Salam, Pak Idrus!
ReplyDeleteThank you for reminding us of the first anniversary of the day Malaysia woke up!
May there be greater civic consciousness and participatory democracy in Malaysia in the years to come.
We are only as strong as our weakest members, and only as good as our most corrupt politicians. Let us unite to make our country stronger and better!
Best regards from a fellow patriot.

Covert_Operations'78, Ee Lynn thanks for the visit and the good words on this posting.
ReplyDeleteYes that day last year jolted everyone, that the rakyaat has woken up from the spell and the change was a shock to everyone and the rakyaat was happy.
Well, that is politic and if you study political science like I do, the first thing they tell you is that Politic is the art of the possible. How true.
Thanks as well for sharing your thoughts on this issue. We are handing it to your generation to carry on with the change.
Have a nice day.
Pak Idrus,
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I wasn't at the computer when you tried to Skype ... I often have the PC on, but go away for long periods of time!
Anyway, when the historic elections took place last year, I was still working in Banda Aceh. What was unique about it was that there were, in our project, one Malaysian and one former Malaysian (long since emigrated to Australia). They were both glued to their PCs and were following the election returns, minute by minute, from the various on-line news sites. It was all quite exciting! We were all caught up in the excitement from Banda Aceh! I suspect this scene was repeated throughout the world, wherever expatriate Malaysians were at that time...
Howard, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on this issue, albeit a very important one for Malaysian.
ReplyDeleteIt has been one year since that change to the Malaysian political scenario. I believe there are more changes to come and it would be good for the country. No one party should take that they have right to rule the country. It is the people that have that right and they are showing their maturity in a democracy.
The coming election would be another interesting one. Perhaps there would be a complete change in government at the federal level. We have to wait and see what would happen then. The new opposition should be wiser now that the collation is one year old.
Have a nice day
