Such a mystique!!...

It is one of those days that you get to enjoy some great moments in time. It started with that torch relay, then that wonderful walk at the lake and watches as well as listen to that melody of the fountains in the color of the night. That entire time one is mystified of this magnificent building. The PETRONAS Twin Towers. It is still the tallest twin towers in the world. Well, since it was built some ten years ago there are other buildings that were built to surpass its height. But then all that was built was just a single tower. The PETRONAS TWIN towers is the only twin towers in the world with that Sky walk. It is also the highest Twin towers. So we still can claim to have the only highest Twin towers. If you put one tower on the top of the other tower it would be some 176 storey high. Whatever it is, the PETRONAS Twin Towers is still a building with its own mystique.

It was a dream of just one man, our former Prime Minister Tun Dr.Mahathir, who dreams of it and with that vision got the PETRONAS Twin Towers built. As you can see in the images that I had captured on that beautiful evening while wondering along the lake and the fountains, it is not that easy to capture such a tall building at such a close range. It is a photographer nightmare to capture a perfect shot of such a tall building. One had to practically lie flat on the pavement to get a perfect shot. The pavement was wet after the downpour that happens just as the torch bearer arrived at the finishing line. In the Eastern culture it is a good omen if it rain during such an occasion. Well, I hope so for the Beijing Olympic is the grandest one that would ever happen on Asian soil. My hope is that it would be a successful one.

As I had said it was not that easy to capture this work of art at its best when we are not in controlled of the elements. With that wet pavement I just could not lie on the floor. So I just wonder and did what best I could to capture this magnificent building on that beautiful evening at the lakeside. The whole landscape which includes the sprawling garden, the pool with it fountains, the wading pool surrounded by the green where birds, the squirrels and insects had made its their home, the PETRONAS Twin Towers complex is indeed one of an architectural splendor that could easily equate as one of the wonder of the world. It unique architecture and on this evening flooded with that florescent light, made it one of the most beautiful building on this planet. Just look at the images above and I am sure you would you agree with me that this building, the creation of Cesar Pelli, the great architect of our time, is indeed a work of art and one of a kind. That my friends are the mystic of the PETRONAS Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. Have a nice day.

  1. Hi Pak Idrus ... Considering the wet conditions and night lighting challenges, I thought you did a good job capturing the images of the Towers. Do they allow visitors to go up to the Skybridge at night? That would be one magnificent view!

I had a near opportunity to work on one of the top floors, with the management of the convention centre. Went for the interview but they only got back to me 2-3 years later, after I had moved to the US. I would have enjoyed the stint.

Thanks again, Pak Idrus, for bringing us along on your sightseeing trips. :)

    PI,

KLCC indeed is a must visit place in KL. Especially at night, the Twin Towers looks so majestic. I can remember the blood rushed to my face when I first look at the towers at night. The feeling then was so good.

For a better angle, may I suggest you try to shoot from the traffic lights intersecton behind Tan&Tan.
    Nive day to you.

"With that wet pavement I just could not lie on the floor."

Remember those early models of digital cameras that had detachable or swivelling lenses that you could use to shoot over the heads of crowds or place at odd angles such as you are talking about, and still be able to comfortably frame the picture on the monitor? Nikon had one till fairly recently, but the technology never seemed to have caught on. Besides, those were the early days and those cameras had low resolution.

The Twin Towers are really striking, especially at night, as you captured in your fine photos, Idrus.

  5. rita, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the KLCC, making this story more interesting and personalized.

KLCC is so near my home, so we just jump into the car and would be at the mall in just mere five minutes. Be in the first world and enjoy the day; coffee, dinner or whatever in this enchanting building.

    Have a nice day.

  6. salt & turmeric, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on your experiences at KLCC. I would have done the same had KLCC exist during my youth. Indeed it is a wonderful place to be, even just to wonder wildestly, just to enjoy the fun. Now in our golden age together with my spouse we would just go for coffee at the Dome and enjoy the evening.

During my youth, the Holiday Inn at Jalan Pinang and The Equatorial Hotel lobby bar are our watering holes. The Paddock is where we would be when the gang's pockets are full of unused cash.

Well that was Youth. A great time on the journey of life and I did enjoyed those parts of my journey.

    Have a nice day.

  15. salam pak idrus,

some may not like what i'm about to say here but here goes anyway. it was DrM's vision that saw us still holding to the world record as the tallest TWIN TOWERS in the world. drM could foresee people from other countries would surely want to beat KL with their own tallest building BUT NOT two. sure eventually there will be another twin towers surpassing KLCC in terms of height but for more than 10 years already now, the record is still ours! drM's simply a genius!

  16. kerp[ph.d], thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on this subject especially that of TDM whose inspiration got the building built.

As I had often said the kind of TDM do not comes always in the history of man. Maybe once in a hundred years. He is a visionary that Malaysian should be proud of. In thousand of years from now the Petronas Twin Tower would still be a mystic and a talk about building in Kuala Lumpur and perhaps in the world of architects everywhere.

Agreed TDM is indeed a genius.

    Have a nice day.

  17. Hello Pak Idrus,

    What a delightful entry.

I am so proud of the Twin Towers.

I agree with Kerp that Tun Mahathir is a genius to have conceptualised two towers instead of one and it has held it's record for so long!

This gem of a project has placed us on the global map. The design is well conceptualised and has stood the test of time. It has quite a timeless appeal. Cesar Pelli is world renowned and he did a splendid job.

PETRONAS to my mind is a blessing to Malaysia.

  18. ruby, thanks for the visit and the kind words on this posting.

Like you I simply love this building. The whole concept is alive in that there are the whole Eco system there, the greens/plants, the pond as in a river, the fountains and the mall, a shopping paradise for all, add these to that unique building of the towers, indeed it is so conceptualized to be alive all the time. I believe its inspired everyone to write even on a postcard about their visit to this wonderful building in the heart of KL.

How I wished that the same conceptualization has been thought of when they develop Putra Jaya. Had they done that we would have another wonder city in Malaysia.

Anyway it all because of the revenue from Petronas and with this project its actually sharing it with the rakyat. True Petronas is a blessing for all Malaysian.

    Have a nice day.

All men dream, but not equally. Those who day-dream by means of twilight in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the age to become aware of that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the epoch are threatening men, for they may act on their dreams with unblocked eyes, to get them possible.
