Well, I lost my cell phone yesterday while on a short holiday at Fraser's Hill. I think I drop it somewhere. I try to locate it by calling from another number but was not successful. So that's it, I have got to get another one. But before doing that I call the Telco and request them to suspend my number for the time being and that I would come over to collect a replacement chip with the same number. So today I went over to Maxis at the KLCC and within minutes was given a replacement chip. I insert it into an old Nokia that I still keep and it works perfect but I lost all the contacts numbers. And to get going I have to update my cellphone with all the numbers and it sure would takes awhile. How I wished I had kept a record of the numbers somewhere else. Like before the cell phone culture, we had all the telephone numbers kept in a book. Now with the cell phone all the numbers are in the phone itself. So after this happening I had to be wiser. I would look for a drive especially made for storing cell phone numbers.
It look like I have to scout for a new cell phone as well, for nowadays we just could not leave home without a cell phone. Anyways it is also time that I change my set to a new one and this is indeed the opportunity to get a new gift for myself. What a life the cell phone made us. It is now not just a tool for communication but a symbol of the lifestyle that we live in today's world. Technology do changes our culture.
Anyways my lost is someone gain. If the finder return it I would be most thankful but if for some reasons the finder could not return it, it would be OK with me if the finder use it. I would just 'wakaf' it. It is one of those things that happen in real life. The vendor that sell cell phone would be happy as well for they have another phone to sell. And Me, happy with a new set of toy. Friends life is like that. Lets made everyone in the chain of the capitalist system happy and continue to enjoy living. Have a nice day.

It's a kind of hard to find such person like you, Pak Idrus, If one could have their phone lost, they would just swear the people who take it and mentioned it as 'haram' for those who take and use it...
ReplyDeleteWell, i know it, things that may have lost could bring ourselves in 'mourning' period and stuff like that. But the way you write did not give me the picture that you're encountering one.
Today might be his/her (the one who took your phone, but who knows, your day would be coming soon.
Thanks.
mutalib, thanks for the visit and those kind words. On a journey of life you encounter many things and you learned. It gives you that wisdom that our species need the most. At this age I am blessed with the best of health and with that I could share my thoughts with others hoping that in some ways they would learn that there are more to living and that small incident like this that's what made life so beautiful and colorful. I do not believe lamenting on the lost would bring me any good. If a good hearted person found it and wish to return then it would be just great but what if he/she had tried and could not find the owner, so to made things easy that is the reason I just 'wakaf' it from that point in time. I am happy with that and just take the lost as one of those thing that just happened. Have a nice day. take care.
ReplyDeletePak Idrus,
ReplyDeleteYou really have taught how to be magnanimous in spite of the loss.
hi&lo, thanks for the visit and the kind words. I have learned that lost and found are part of the chain of events that happened from time to time. In most countries they have the Lost and Found Department at the local authority so that people could deposit things found and collect what they lost. That is one of the greatest virtue of humankind. It look like we must take the first step toward that direction and hope that our value system would improve over times. I am doing that with a clear conscience and hope for the best. After all our species is supposed to be the best that walk this earth. Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteSalam Pak Idrus
ReplyDeleteThese days, I longed for the day of complete silence, no rings or beeps of the cell phone but to no avail. How our lives have been taken over by this little gadget, which no longer serves as our communications tool (as in a phone) but also a camera, an MP3 player and GPS, among others.
When I lost my phone at the KLCC surau last Ramadan, the first thing I did was to get the replacement sim card from Maxis while a friend got me a new phone.
No worries about the lost numbers. I backed up the numbers on the laptop. All I needed to do was to transfer it back.
Swear and curse at the pickpocket? I don’t want to waste my breathe. He couldn’t use the phone anyway. I had it locked.
fauziah, thanks for the visit and telling the saga of the lost cell phone. From the beginning our species try to improve the way they communicate and now we have invented this gadget, the cell phone. Today it has become part of us. It is our globalized culture now. More gadgets would comes our way to enhanced our quality of life. That, Fauziah is how we enriched our culture and improve our quality of life. Have a nice day.
ReplyDeletePak Idrus,
ReplyDeleteNow you can have all your address/phone numbers uploaded and stored by the Telco (Maxis), for a small fee. I am not sure about other service providers.

ReplyDeletetok has left a new comment on your post "The cell phone...":
ReplyDeleteYears back, people did not carry any mobile, so you can see people at the pondok telefon if they want to reach someone. But nowadays it is so common that people will take it for granted and just assume that you have one. If not, you are an outcast and they act as if there is noway you can be contacted.
Anyway , alhamdulillah that you got a replacement. I don't know where you get your replacement set, but …
Tok, thanks for the visit and the comment. I have edited your comment as above. Have a nice day.
