A Blogger Evening, May 19...

Well, it was indeed a great evening in Subang Jaya. I did enjoy it and hope that there would be other such event in the future where bloggers could meet and exchange thoughts and of course enjoy themselves. The turnout was great, bloggers from all over the country came and by seven in the evening the hall was packed. Pak Desiderata, a veteran blogger like me, took the chair and start the evening with talks by various personalities that was invited. The talk mostly focus on the roles of blogging in Malaysia and free speech. After the interaction from the floor the event move toward the dinner made of great Malaysia spreads, with roast lamb as an extra. I did enjoy the food and that roast lamb.

It was indeed an interesting evening, for most of us we were meeting strangers that we only knew in cybersphere and not as yet in the real world. Now it was the time to put the faces to those cyberpals that we already knew. I went around to meet as many of bloggers that I could and over the course of the evening got to know the real person behind the blogs. And among the many I shall mention a few here. The first person I met is a charming young lady near the registration desk. A blogger known as Politikus. Yes, I thought all the time that Politikus is a man but I was dead wrong. It is a She. Actually when we met she already guessed who am I. And ask me whether I am Pak Idrus. Than I met Desiderata, whom I have spoken on the phone before. I than met Howsy the organiser of this evening event, whom I thoughts to be a much older person but it turn out to be a rather young chap. Thanks to him and Pak Desi who chair the evening event, we bloggers got to meet each other, at this wonderful evening in an atmosphere of friendship. Friendship been the culture of Blogger, the evening was indeed colorful and dynamic.

Of course I met all those famous and known bloggers and this time I got to meet with non other than Marina Mahathir, the daughter of our former Prime Minister, Tun Dr.Mahathir. Had a chat with her and ask her how is her dad now [TDM is at present in hospital]. She said that He is alright and is in his usual self.

Since I am not that familiar of the venue of the event in Subang Jaya, I decided to go together with Pok ku another veteran blogger. Pok ku with his big camera had a field day of taking photos and you can see some of the scenes of the event in his blog here.

Personally to me the event was a success. This is the second such meeting of bloggers. The first one was organised by the people of Project Petaling Street some years ago. Well, got to go for now. Have a nice day and take care.

  1. dear pak idrus..

i think that such events should be twice or thrice annually, to foster good relationship between bloggers. what says you?

another thing, i was looking for you after the dinner, but failed to find you. You went back early, was it?

(and i must say that i was so 'reserved' that day, prior to nervousness. it was first major social event i ever went..!!)

    take care.

  2. Hi Pak Idrus,

I would like you to keep an open mind and ponder over this:

I have not made effort to join any bloggers meet as I feel much as we go for freedom of expressions, forming such a club as the bloggers club will only attract much attention by the authorities and if the club gets carried away it can in a way be political and discriminating too. I'm eeky that in the end we are playing to some people's game.

I'd prefer to leave the bloggers world unstructured and allow people to express the way they are comfortable with.

Are there bloggers club like ours in the advanced countries. Or are we always political at any level? Even at this creative level?

I would love to socialise no doubt, but in a relaxed atmosphere and not stressed with political agenda or whatever agenda. I value my sense of creativity and don't wish to be dragged in any kind of structure, especially when we have understood that blogging is personal.

    What's your take?

  3. Mutalib, thanks for the visit and the comments. Well for a first timer it is best that you just take its easy and watch what's happening and learn along the ways.

I think once a year would be just right.

I left after the dinner. At this age I did not like to drive at night, thus the reason I left just after that. Have a nice day.

  4. Ruby, thanks for the visit and that thoughtful comments.

Agreed with your thoughts. We should be as unstructured. In fact I have writen to a few of the main blogger in All Blogs to go slow with this and not get caught into the system and be apolitical as well.

I event told some of them that it is best to be like now, free like a bird in cybersphere.

I am one of those person, my spouse as well who love to socialized. I went to the function to socialized and listen to what's happening in the real world of blogging. And of course to put a face to those anonymous bloggers.

Blogging is new to the world. I think there are blogger club in other countries and are apolitical.Just an association in cybersphere, like Project Petaling Street in our country and the Rice Bowl Journal http://ricebowljournals.com/ that I join in cybersphere.

Like you when we have all the freedom in cybersphere, Why get tied up in the real world.

Have a nice day and take care, Thanks again.

  7. Pak Idrus,

I salute you for being very sporting and sociable. You are always game for anything new.

If you didn't put your portrait up, I guess you are Gen Y.

You defy definitions in more ways than one. With due respect to the civil service, you don't fit the bill of a govt servant in your worldview.

I really enjoy your blog. Keep going and make us wiser, Sir.
