Kingfisher and the day...

It is the end of February 2007. Another beautiful day. The morning had been cool since it rain last night. The weather had been a sorts of rain and sunshine, an unpredictable weather which comes often at this time of the year. The morning were usually bright but come evening it might rain. What is good about this weather is that it keep the evening cool. Living in the equator where the weather is always hot and humid, a cool morning and evening is always a welcome time. To sit at the patio and enjoy a afternoon tea. Yesterday my spouse says that she saw a Kingfisher perched on the wall beside our fish pond. I supposed it was attracted to the fish in the pond and was hopping for a dinner of a sort. After a while it fly away without making any catch. Anyway it was nice to see this bird around, a colorful bird indeed, blue in color which is seldom seen. It is on a rare occasion like yesterday that a kingfisher is seen. At one time, sometimes ago I saw one perched on the fence at the back of our house. It was indeed great to see such bird around the vicinity. The Kingfisher. I hope the next time it is around I would get it digitised in my camera. Well it is not going to be easy and I would surely try. Have a nice day.

  1. Pak Idrus,

As a young lad growing up in Seremban, I used to rear tropical fishes at the back of our house in rectangular wooden boxes lined with plastic sheets. These boxes were pretty shallow and uncovered, placed on a raised wooden platform under a tree for shade. One day I started to notice that my fishes seem to be dwindling in numbers, wondering who the culprit someone could be stealing them! Then one fine morning I saw this kingfisher perched on a branch just above my fish tanks ......

  2. Cliff, thanks for the visit. The comments are informative yet interesting. Well these birds are parts of the Eco system, we need them as they need us to keep our blue marble well balanced. For our species to survived we have to share. Indeed, I would surely feed the bird if they come regularly, like that elusive squirrel that I fed with apples daily. Have a nice day.

  3. Pak Idrus, not long after putting my comments on your blog last night I had to go out to my backyard to check out our dog's inccessant barking. Lo and behold, perched on a branch in the corner of our property was a possum. Possums are regarded as pests here in Melb, looking like an oversized rat (size of a cat),nocturnal in nature and chews up plants and fruits. Infact we have a nectarine tree and the possums tends to get to the fruits before we do. It is a nightmare if one ever gets into your house. Nonetheless, it's a protected species here and it's illegal to poison or trap them yourselves!!! Thought I'll share this with you since we are on the topic of "visitors" to our house. Have a good day.

  4. Cliff, thanks for sharing that interesting happening at your backyards. Well, these visitors have every right to be there since we are actually the invader of their land. Anyway for a common cause let share the space by respecting and understanding. The presence of these wonder animals and insects surely makes our life more colorful and interesting. Lives would surely be dull without the presence of other species in our midst. Have a nice Day.
