A Gorgeous Park at Ampang Hilir...

It used to be just one of those many mining pools that were left to no use after the mining of tin ore ended some years ago. Plants and weeds grow wild along the bank of the lake while water hyacinth covered the whole surface. Only occasionally that one would see some fishing enthusiasts with their fishing rods sitting and chatting along the bank. I have passed this spot all the years that I had made Ampang Jaya my home since 1973 and was hoping that the authority of the site, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall would do something useful to this valuable real estate. And now they have done a wonderful project for the benefit of folks who live around the area. A greens in the concrete jungle!. What a blessing..

It was only last year that I began to see some development been done when the whole area was fenced off and a signboard put up saying that they are developing the whole area into a recreational park. So every time I passed the area I was hopping to see something new been developed but because the fence was high it was not possible to see what is going on inside the whole area. And when the fence came down some time in June this year what a surprise it was. A beautiful landscaped garden emerged. What a wonderful sight to pass by whenever I return home when taking Jalan Ampang.

Now we have a recreational park well maintained by City Hall; which is just about 2.5 kilometers from our home. So the other day I decided to venture into the park and took some images of the site and here I am sharing with all what I saw. A great place to go jogging or just to relax in a peaceful surrounding beside a lake. The Taman Tasik Ampang Hilir [Ampang Hilir Lake Garden], an enchanting place indeed.

A big Thank You to City Hall of Kuala Lumpur for such a thoughtful project.

Have a nice day. [click on image to enlarge]

Isn't it wonderful when governments can get their act together and do a wonderful job of governing?

I think of the unfortunate souls in Somalia, Haiti and Sudan where we read about failed governments / failed states. The people there can't organize their lives, or cooperate and work together to raise their standard of living. And the shame of it is that there are other countries in danger of going in the same direction.

You are very fortunate to be living in a place where there's decent law and order; no corruption, so that projects like the one you've just photographed can be completed for the citizens' benefit.

Well done to your local government.

Adirya Kiratas, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of this posting.

Malaysia is just 51 years old and still learning the way of good democracy. We are indeed lucky to have inherited from the colonial authority the British the way to managed a country. They have set up the Malaysian Civil Service and other Professional Services to managed the country; from the setting up of the District Office to managed the District to that of the State level and that of Federation Administration.

Upon gaining independence in 1957 Malaysia just continue using those machinery, some are upgraded while new agencies are created to provides new services with changing times. Program of privatization was carried out by the government under Dr.Mahathir. Local Council are all still managed by government officers and as yet to developed into a pure democratic institution but I think it would happen as we progress.

In the meantime we the people are watching the politicians every move to see that they do deliver when elected. March 8, 2008 saw a major change and I think there are going to be more changes to come in the coming election. As usual we cannot expect much from such a young democracy and it look like the voters are doing a good job of doing changes phase by phase.

So far I am happy that the local council are doing their job in a professional way, although there are still rooms for improvement. Thanks to these institutions we now could live in peace and enjoy prosperity.

Have a nice day.

Anonymous, Yvonne thanks for the visit and the good words on the park. I think they would eventually allow fishing there.

Well we had lunch at the Dome today and there is Asam Pedas Fish on the menu. I had 'Lamb Stew' while my spouse had 'Catch of the Day'. Did enjoy the lunch.

I believe there are Dome Cafe in Singapore!. You may want to try the Assam Pedas there.

Pak Idrus,

What a wonderful use of land to convert an abandoned mining pool system to a public park! I commend the City Fathers and the designers. I think landscape architecture is a field that may have great future there!

And, as always, thank you for the wonderful pictures.

It is good to know that the city planner are now thinking of the rakyaat now. Which not only reward the rakyaat but the planner as well. A greener city provides a better quality environment for everyone.

I hope they would continue to developed more greens for all to enjoy and made the whole country a better place to live and enjoy life; thus helps to produce a healthy human resources, which in turn would became more productive for the country.

Yes there are great future for Landscape planner in this country.

AMPANG HILIR LAKE.
Yes its a beautiful place to jog. I jog there practically everyday.
What I noticed a bit eye sore/ shameful is our locals played badminton on the grass , teenager above 12years of age playing the swings and the worst parents on the see-saw. I guess these people are ignorant dont know how to read the sign board.I hope the authority will ban them from going to the park , spoiling public property, what a shame.

Anonymous [2.46PM], thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of this posting.

Agreed with you in that those folks must learn of how to appreciate the facilities provided. Indeed it is a shame they misused the space provides for their well being. They still seem to have a third world mindset thus their behavior.

It is my hope that they would learn as we move forward. Like you I hope the authority would look at this state of affairs and put a stop to it.

Have a nice day;
